Character Education Home / Academics / Character Education Building Good Character Elementary We teach our students to be kind, respectful, and responsible. They learn good manners and show respect to others. Every morning, they greet their teacher with a handshake and eye contact. They then gather for a class meeting. This includes the Flag Salute, National Anthem, and a morning reflection to instill gratitude. We focus on Six Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. These values are woven into our daily lessons. Students in 2nd grade and up also take cotillion, a social graces class. Students who show strong character are honored through our Citizen of the Month and Character Cards programs. Character Cards are given to students when a staff member notices they show good character. Families can also celebrate good behavior that they see at home with our “Do The Right Thing” award. Middle School Our middle school students use the Impacter Pathway program. This is a social-emotional learning program used during their Life Skills classes. In addition to positive traits, our students learn how to interact positively with others and how to resolve problems. Through this, they also build their confidence! Just like in the younger grades, our middle school teachers select children for our Citizen of the Month award. These students show good character by being kind, respectful, and polite. They also work hard, stay positive, and help their classmates. The highest honor is our Principal’s Humanitarian award. This is given to students who show all Six Pillars of Character every day. At the end of the year, one 6th grade student, one 7th grade student, and two 8th grade students receive this special award.
