Our Mission Home / About Us / Our Mission School Motto: It’s a great day to be a HUSKY! Our History Heritage Oak was founded in 1966 as a small preschool dedicated to balancing strong academics with character development. Teachers drew from the Carden tradition, helping students build both intellectual and personal foundations. Over time, the school expanded, adding elementary classes to meet the growing demand for its enriching curriculum. By the late 1980s, the original facility had begun to show its age. A new chapter began in 1992 when Phyllis and Greg Cygan purchased the school. They relocated it to a newly renovated building in Yorba Linda. With the move came a new name, Heritage Oak Private School, a reflection of its continued growth and commitment to excellence. Philosophy We establish and maintain high levels of academic and behavioral standards, so that our students are prepared for what comes next. Our commitment is evident, with 100% of our graduates usually gaining acceptance into their preferred high schools. Notably, 94% of these students, on average, are placed into honors classes as freshmen. Our teachers are role models for our students. They show kindness, teamwork, and a love for learning. They provide our students with a strong academic foundation that promotes cooperation, higher level thinking, problem solving, and lifelong learning. Our teachers are dedicated to our school, with an average of 95% returning year after year. Our parents are very involved in their child’s education. They are aware of their children’s progress and send them to school prepared to learn. Parents reinforce the development of their child’s responsibility. They model an attitude of cooperation and communication with all members of our community. Our students not only have high academic standards, but high behavioral standards as well. They respect each other, their parents, and the community. They are ready to learn, put forth their best efforts, participate, and develop resilience to handle any issue that may come their way.
