Week 10: August 19th – August 22nd

AM Orchestra – 4th-5th
This class will prepare Orchestra students for the upcoming school year. Students will work in an ensemble with multiple instruments and sections. They will learn new techniques with their respective instruments and focus as a group on music theory, music history, listening and aural skills, music notation, and new music terms.

AM Concert Band – 6th-8th
Heritage Oak Students Only. Concert Band is open to students who have completed first- or second-year band at Heritage Oak during the school year. Please bring your Accent on Achievement Book 1 and your instrument.

AM Money & Measurement – 1st-2nd
Campers will advance their knowledge of monetary value along with addition and subtraction as they “shop” in our classroom, earn “money” for tasks completed, and play games relating to the value of each coin. They will also advance their measuring skills utilizing the concepts of length, weight, temperature, capacity, and time. *English Proficiency Required.

AM French Boot Camp – JK-5th
This is a week of fun interactive conversations in French. Students will get to learn basic thematic vocabulary through songs and short videos and jump right into authentic conversational French! Students will build up their self-confidence and be able to speak with their teacher and classmates during the first lesson using everyday simple French expressions. No previous French classes needed.

AM Inventor’s Workshop – JK-3rd
Have you ever thought about a better way to do something? If so, you’re a problem-solver and an inventor in the making! Join us for a fun-filled week of tinkering, building, and problem solving as we learn about famous inventors and the steps they took to achieve their success. As part of our workshop, campers will be busy exploring how some appliances and machines work. We’ll examine the internals of some machines by opening up various appliances and machines to see how they function. We will also design and create a few of our own inventions. Your young inventor will also learn how to make his/her own batteries and experiment with simple circuits.

AM Songwriter’s Studio 4th-8th
Are you an aspiring musician, or do you just love to sing and play instruments on your free time?  Hone in on your creative skills while you learn how to compose your own song!  We will cover the basics of sight-reading and singing as a group as well as build confidence by performing solos or small group acts in front of others.  Learn about recording software like GarageBand that you can use to record your own masterpiece at home!

PM Middle School Orchestra – 6th-8th
This class will prepare Orchestra students for the upcoming school year. Students will work in an ensemble with multiple instruments and sections. They will learn new techniques with their respective instruments and focus as a group on music theory, music history, listening and aural skills, music notation, and new music terms.

PM Measure it Math – 3rd-5th
Students will work on story word problems and cut ad sequencing activities, as well all the elements of measurement: length, width, height, thickness, size, volume, and time. Children will keep their activities in a math journal that will be a great source for continued practice. *English Proficiency Required.

PM Cheer – 3rd-8th
Is your child ready to put some pep in their step and smile with spirit? Join the cheer squad and learn how to become a talented, athletic student that spreads spirit everywhere you go!

PM Robotics Jr. – JK-3rd
Robotics combines engineering, science, and technology skills to create machines that perform tasks and solve problems! Using VEX robots, campers will unlock the power of their imagination by designing and constructing remote-controlled robotic devices. Students will learn the concepts of Machine Intelligence, which is found in almost all the devices and machines around us, from cars to home automation to smartphones. The students will work to design the robot, build it, and move it by remote control. They will learn about robot sensors, which enable the robot to “feel” its environment. Robots are only limited by your imagination!

PM Digging for Dino’s – JK-2nd
Join the “dino diggers” this summer and explore the amazing prehistoric world of dinosaurs. This camp is a must for all young paleontologists. Campers will learn about dinosaur anatomy, behavior, and even traits that are around today through hands-on activities and projects like fossil digging, creating fossil replicas, and incredible dramatic play activities.

PM Intro to Strings – 1st-3rd
This introduction to strings class will prepare students for the upcoming school year. Students will become familiar with the different parts of the violin and start to understand the musical notes that create a beautiful sound. They will learn new techniques with their violin and focus as a group on music theory, music history, listening and aural skills, music notation, and new music terms.

PM Cursive Club – 2nd-4th
Students will practice their cursive penmanship using both uppercase and lowercase letters. This class will focus on proper formation, the connection of the letters, neatness, size, consistency, and the natural slant of cursive lettering. A variety of tools including sand, yarn, crayons, watercolor paint, shaving cream, chalk, and glue will add fun and excitement to the class as students perfect their skills. This camp is most useful for students who have not yet learned how to read or write in cursive, as well as students who would like to improve their fine motor skills and penmanship. *English Proficiency Required.
